From support at tft-bbs.com Fri Dec 31 17:04:30 2010 From: support at tft-bbs.com (Gordon & Lynne Smith) Date: Fri, 31 Dec 2010 17:04:30 +0000 Subject: Important System Announcement; Please Read! Message-ID: <57851BCF-FA75-4E7D-BCC2-00EDDA3C5158@tft-bbs.com> Hello everybody; and may I first, on behalf of Gordon and myself, take this opportunity of wishing you all a very happy, peaceful and prosperous 2011. For us personally, 2010, just like 2009, has been a pretty wretched year. So we are hoping for a better crack of the whip this time around; which leads me on to the purpose of this post. As I am sure you're aware, several of our group members, (including us ourselves) use Apple Macs with VoiceOver on a daily basis. Well; to qualify that statement a little. Gordon uses it daily, I use it when I need or want to experiment with anything in order to help somebody or simply to practice so that I can learn. Unfortunately, there has been a particular bug in VoiceOver since, so I am told, the very beginning. This bug impacts on VoiceOver users when they are using Safari to browse web content, and they encounter a group of items which is extremely large. This has proven to be something of a problem in the case of our list archives. And we got to the point where it was iompossible in some cases, difficult in others, to use our archives effectively to search for a specific item. Having listened to Techno-Chat member feedback on this topic, we have decided to modify the behaviour of our list archives, to make them more user-friendly for those people using VoiceOver. Effective immediately, messages are now being archived into monthly volumes instead of annual. This will make browsing and searching the archive a more proactive experience for those using VoiceOver and enable better responsiveness whilst searching. Gordon and I hope that this new behaviour will make things easier for those people affected by the browsing issue, and we apologise for any previous inconvenience. At the moment, the 2010 archives still exist as a single volume, until the new December 2010 archive was created a few moments before composing this post. We are planning to investigate the possibility of splitting the 2010 archive into monthly volumes If we can do this we will bring the new volumes on line immediately. If not, the 2010 archive will remain as it stands, and the new format will be used from this point onward. Please feel free to contact us off list using the support address if you have any questions or if you require any further information regarding this issue. Once again, happy new year from all of us here at TFT BBS. We hope that 2011 will be a peaceful, pleasant and prosperous year for everybody. Seems that some people, (not me) are having problems clicking your links because your text is coming across as one big long string. As for the content, I don't think this is anything particularly new. MI5 and others have been tapping into the mobile networks for several years. In fact, there was a court case over here a couple of years ago where a newspaper journalist was convicted of doing exactly this. He infiltrated some very classified material by eavesdropping on government officials using their mobile phones, as we call them, (cell phones, as you do) That might well be why the article says don't worry; it's old news. I'm not too worried and besides our government here loves to collect such things from the phone companies her e anyways so I always assume I'm being intercepted. Take care.
